As my trusty old Treo is living its last few breaths, we went the store this weekend to look at the available smartphones (and enjoy the air conditioning). Because I have been spoiled with a few smartphone features, I now have a list of feature requirements:
- Frequency/Connectivity: World phone
- Full QWERTY keyboard
- Bluetooth & USB connectivity
- Microsoft Direct Push or at least a way to sync with my work calendar
- Calendar, Personal Organizer, Address book, Email
- Hands-free speakerphone
- Call waiting, Caller ID, Conference calling, Call Forwarding
- Multitasking capability
- WiFi/WLAN connectivity
- Web browsing (including multimedia/flash)
But, alas, after much ado about the latest and greatest phone models, I haven't found 'the' next phone for me yet. The Palm 700w/wx wasn't as multimedia friendly as I want it to be. It also required a WiFi accessory to get it connected to the WLAN. I'm not yet a 100% convinced with the iPhone since it doesn't play all the multimedia that I want it to. It also doesn't sync with my office calendar & contacts. Although, there is some promise of a second-generation phone coming out soon, as well as the push client that might be out this June.
