What Now?

« View from the South Tower |Main| Word of the Day: Umbrage »

It's sixteen before midnight and I can't sleep. The truth is, I'm a bit shaken about something I saw today. I need a happy thought.

Shifting through the television channels isn't helping. So, I'm settling for a feel good family show on TLC. Five minutes into the show, I'm still thinking about it. It's been a while since I've felt this nauseous. I am scarred for life.

Have you ever watched anything so disturbing that it just left you weak? Then, you wonder, why did they do that? Are people that hopeless? Faithless? Sure, not everyone believes on the same thing, but there should be some common ground. For example, humanity and being able to make decisions based on right and wrong. But because we are--after all--human, we have weaknesses that sometimes cloud our ability to make good decisions. Weaknesses such as fear, greed, sloth, anger, self-absorption, envy, mental instability, and pride can entrap us and make us vindicate with our (in)decision.

Wakta (Hope)

If you find yourself making rash decisions, consider thinking about it at least twice before acting impulsively. In some cases, you may need to make a decision right away. I find it most helpful to remind myself to constantly be wary of consequences--who it'll affect and how. In the end, you may find yourself working at your best under pressure.

Now that's out of the way, I will try to get some sleep. G'nite. This will get published the next day (from post date).

Decisions. Wow, a word most defined by another word, intent. When a person strives for true control over ones universe, said control can easily be measured by how far in the future you allow your decisions to affect. Can you make decisions that are intended to change your life ten years from now? Ten months? Ten days? Hours, minutes? I explore this more in a post called "You are a product of the decisions that you make" at http://securityforidiots.blogspot.com/
As far as seeing something so unsettling, the sight fights you for days for control over your psyche, YES.

Hi David, great post here: http://securityforidiots.blogspot.com/2008/04/you-are-result-of-decisions-that-you.html. I have to confess that this post was a result from watching the Stephen King movie The Mist. I love Stephen King, most of the time. But this movie's ending was just quite disturbing. I won't post any spoilers here.

But I definitely agree that you are a product of the decisions you make. In some cases where compromise is needed, I do not believe in settling. Even with compromises, we can live our lives to the fullest (cliche it may sound).
