The story, rather a simple one, is about a star falls to earth, drawing a chase to recover it for different reasons:
- The hero, Tristran (Charlie Cox), an English shop boy who promised to bring back the star to impress the town beauty Victoria (Sienna Miller).
- Villain, witch Lamia (Michelle Pfeiffer), who needs the take the heart of a glowing star to restore the youth and beauty of she and her sisters
- Semi-Villain, Septimus (Mark Strong), the most pernicious of the Stormhold Princes who needs the star to secure the throne after the passing of their father, the King (Peter O' Toole).
The star, to create a bit more complexity, falls on the land of Stormhold as a young woman named Yvaine (Claire Daines). Tristran must safely accompany Yvaine to England. Other characters met during their adventure include Captain Shakespeare (Robert De Niro), a closet-cross-dressing pirate.
When most book-to-movie purists may say that the movie is far too different or just slightly varied from the book, I found the movie very entertaining and bewitching (pun intended). Definitely a must-see movie and a must-buy DVD.
