Pathfinder, Casino Royal, Happy Feet, and March of the Penguins
Pathfinder (2007)
Two Worlds, One War. The Ultimate Battle Begins.
A young nordic viking boy was left behind after his clan slaughters a tribe of Native Americans. The wife of a tribe's pathfinder takes and raises him as their own. Fifteen years later, he is faced with the reality of his own demons when the marauders return to fulfill their task to eliminate 'these savage beings' (referring to the Native Americans). Classically ironic.
When he returns to his village, he finds his family and co-inhabitants murdered. He confronts his destiny by avenging his 'family' and finding his own path.
Overall, the movie was okay. Karl Urban (Eomer, LOTR) played the part well. However, I felt that the film was cut too short. Some scenes could have been replaced with more substantial information about the dragon people or the villagers. If I am not mistaken, this film was based on the 1987 movie Ofelas. The story is very similar. I'll have to go search for the other movie to compare.
Casino Royal (2006)
Casino Royale introduces James Bond before he holds his license to kill.
Daniel Craig did a really good job portraying a younger and tougher 007. The movie begins with a huge action sequence that is sure to get you hooked. This 007 proves that arrogance and self-awareness can go hand in hand.
Like other good movies (such as 300), you are left with clever lines you cannot forget. Here's a few:
James Bond: So you want me to be half-monk, half-hitman.
M: Any thug can kill. I need you to take your ego out of the equation.
James Bond: Why do people who can't take advice always insist on giving it?
Vesper Lynd: I'm the money.
James Bond: Every penny of it.
James Bond: The job's done and the bitch is dead.
Mathis: Being dead does not mean one cannot be helpful.
Vesper Lynd: Rolex?
James Bond: Omega.
Of course it's an Omega! James Bond always wears an Omega!
Happy Feet (2006)
WARNING: May cause toe-tapping.
Mumble, lemme tell something to jooo...
I love this movie! Enter the world of the Emperor Penguins! They sing their heart songs until they find their true loves. These penguins remain monogamous creates (for about a year). Mumble, born with the inability to sing in tune, expresses his feelings through tap.
Tragedy strikes when they are faced with a threat to their food source. Mumble finds new friends (his posse!) who accompany him in his journey to find out more about the unknown 'aliens'. Through his venture, he proves that by being true to yourself, you can make a difference in the world.
March of the Penguins (2005)
In the harshest place on Earth, love finds a way
Scientists travel to the ice-lands -- Antartica. There they witness the life of the Emperor Penguins. This documentary begins with the emperors marching for twenty days in single file to reach their 'home'. Here they search for their soulmates. Their courtship results in procreation where the female penguin lays a single egg. When the egg is laid, the couple practices 'transferring' the egg from mother to father. Once transferred, the females leave for the sea, exhausted and looking for nourishment for themselves and their young. The fathers are left to take care of the eggs until they hatch.
Time passes and the family is later reunited. When the baby penguins are old enough, they go to the ocean, where they stay for four years until they reach adult life and then...the circle of life continues.
