The Good Shepherd (2006)
The true story of the birth of the CIA through the eyes of a man who never existed.
Everyone has secrets. Some secrets are just greater than others. Good Shepherd guides you through the life of Edward Wilson. The movie works you through his pledge as a Bonesman where he tells his brothers a secret he has never told anyone his entire life. He is then approached by an agent who asks him "to be a good citizen" which eventually leads him to his career in intelligence.
Most of us a intrigued by the possibility of living a life in Intelligence. But what really is Intelligence? The Good Shepherd movie website contains some information about this (copied below).
*******
Intelligence is defined as information needed by a nation's leaders to keep that country safe. Counter-intelligence is the activity of preventing the enemy from obtaining secret information, such as careful classification and control of sensitive information, and spreading disinformation. The CIA has three functions:
Primary function - to obtain and analyze information about foreign governments, corporations, and individuals, and report such information the US Government.
Secondary function - to overtly and covertly disseminate both true and false information that influences others to make decisions favorable to the United States Government. The second function is usually known as propaganda or public relations.
The Third function - to act as the "hidden hand" of the government by engaging in covert operations at the direction of the President.
*******
It is that third function that has been the center of controversy, and for some a question of morality. Since 1947, the agency has carried out numerous operations throughout the world. Some of us grew up watching spy movies and sometimes 'hoping' that we become 'spies' when we 'grew up'. Do you remember those days? Have you changed your mind?
