Religion versus Legislation. Church versus State. Beliefs versus Laws. Capital Punishment versus Life Imprisonment. However you want to put it, most of us are caught between choosing between the two. I am not one who often discusses politics or current events. Today, I woke up and this was the first thing that came to mind. There are certain issues that often involve decisions that make it difficult for us to take sides, or form opinions. One example is the Tookie Williams Issue.
Founder of the Crips, Tookie Williams was convicted and sentenced to death for the 1979 murders of four people in two separate incidents. He is scheduled to be executed on December 13, 2005 at 12:01AM. That's just a few hours away.
So, where do you draw the line? When is it right to overturn convictions?
It's tough.
The law should always remain firm to ensure justice and order. Some religions teach that you should always forgive, no matter what.
Tough indeed.
I don't like taking sides.
